Human Resources Generalist

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for HR, the Human Resources Generalist will assist with executing various tasks within the day-to-day HR operations in cooperation/collaboration with other Human Resources team members. This position will require a significant amount of independence and self-direction to accomplish its essential functions and responsibilities. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities of general HR functions to include: new hire onboarding, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) data management, employee relations, training and employee development, employment related activities that may also include applicant screening, recruiting, I-9 verifications, job posting activities, and interviewing.


The ideal candidate will be an experienced well-rounded HR professional who has a passion to promote efforts for a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment and community.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but is not limited to the following):


  • Support and assist the AVP for HR and the HR Manager in educating and ensuring adherence to CCAD's general employment policies, procedures, and protocols for faculty, staff, and student employees in accordance and compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for assisting with and performing general daily HR functions including administrative, timekeeping for payroll, and employment related activities.
  • Responsible for the full cycle student employment program including onboarding for new hire students.
  • Assists with the overall hiring for faculty & staff including recruiting efforts, job posting, and new hire onboarding.
  • Assist with Youth & Community Learning Instructor contract management, pre-employment processing and onboarding.
  • Analyze and provide data reporting to the AVP for HR on DEI statistics on hiring, retention, and other areas of importance for IPEDS reporting requirements and other metrics tracking.
  • Assigns all new hires and annual required compliance training for faculty and staff.
  • Working with the AVP for HR, responsible for the annual performance evaluation updates, launch, assignment, and tracking.
  • Manage and oversee the Tuition Waiver and Tuition Exchange Programs including employee applicant submissions and reporting.
  • Manages and collaborates with IT to properly monitor the adjunct hibernation/ termination process function.
  • Manage, track, and administer employee FMLA, Paternity, & all leave of absences.
  • Oversee and manage all unemployment claim responses and appeals.
  • Assist AVP for HR with Title IX employee cases.
  • Assist the HR team with responding to faculty, staff, and student employee's requests and questions in a friendly, efficient, professional manner, either by email, directly in-person, or directing them to the appropriate person and/or department.
  • Ensures all federal, state postings, and required employee postings are updated in their respective locations on campus.
  • Responsible for maintaining employee records and files both active and terminated.
  • Performs other H.R. functions as necessary; This could include serving on committees, strategic planning pods, representing the department in special functions or events, assisting with facilitating and planning HR sponsored events, assisting in training new members to the HR team, and assisting with additional duties when there are vacancies in the department.
  • Performs other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Comprehensive and proficient computer skills with the ability to navigate complex systems, reports, and demonstrated skills in database management.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of (Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Paycor- Payroll &, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) or the ability to learn these systems.
  • Must have HR competence and knowledge with HR processes.
  • Must have proficient knowledge of FMLA tracking, ADA law/regulation, and STD medical leave administration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and best practices.
  • Strong organization, and time management skills and is comfortable working in a highly visible role.
  • Highly organized and efficient worker; skilled at multitasking and willing to take initiative and work independently when needed.
  • Exhibits professional integrity and a sense of inclusivity, responsibility and accountability.

EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or relevant field required.
  • Specific human resources education and training; Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certification PHR-CP or SPHR-SCP is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the HR field with progressive working knowledge of multiple aspects of Human Resources, FMLA & ADA law and administration, employee relations, and recruiting experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the responsibilities of the Human Resources Generalist's role, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required in this job include close vision. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move 10-20 pounds.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions while moving about on campus..

The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
