Full-Time Faculty in Experience Design

Full-time Faculty in Experience Design

Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking an innovative maker and teacher for a new full-time open-rank faculty position in Experience Design. This role will bring critical experience design approaches to existing degree programs, as well as to an emergent graduate and undergraduate curriculum in adjacent areas. Candidates with expertise in interaction design, human-centered design, as well as digital experience design practices that are both physical and digital, are encouraged to apply.

We desire applications from candidates with a record of teaching experience; proven skill in course development; a commitment to diverse, equitable, and inclusive design and design pedagogy; and a track record of excellent creative practice. In this position, the faculty member will develop and/or teach courses in digital/motion graphics and digital experience design; adjacent/layered interests may include: digital fabrication techniques, advanced AR/VR methods, or emerging digital technologies.

All CCAD faculty have access to a variety of internal funding sources in order to support professional practice (travel, research, projects), including the Griffith Big Project Fund that supports new making and research projects. Faculty also have the ability to continue to work remotely from Columbus with their clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This faculty member will take a collaborative academic role in building programs and coursework that touch, broadly, on digital/motion graphics and digital experience design. To that end, they will teach 6 graduate or undergraduate courses per year in multiple departments. As part of that teaching responsibility, they may also deliver short form continuing education courses or workshops in the same subject area.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree is required, as is strong professional experience in graphic, experience, or 3D design and/or a graduate degree in a relevant discipline.

A completed application will include:

  • A cover letter that articulates the ways their experience fits the role as well as:
    • a diversity statement outlining their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (an application without a diversity statement will not be considered).
  • A CV including:
    • names/contact details for three references
    • a link to a portfolio of professional work
  • Additional materials may be requested of candidates later in the interview process.

If applicants have any questions regarding the position, they are encouraged to contact the search committee chair, Kelly DeVore, kdevore@ccad.edu. Review of applicants will begin on January 15, 2022, but applications will continue to be received and reviewed until the position is filled.
