FINANCIAL AID ASSISTANT/ADVISOR

 

Columbus College of Art & Design is seeking applications for the position of Financial Aid Assistant/Advisor.  The Financial Aid Assistant/Advisor will, under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, provide financial aid services and counseling to all students.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is a key role in student financial aid services. The Financial Aid Assistant/Advisor is expected to maintain a spirit of professionalism, diplomacy and tact. As a Financial Aid Assistant/Advisor, you will be one of the first points of contact for our students/parents.  To be successful in this position, you should have a pleasant and outgoing personality.  You should be able and willing to work with Students and parents and discuss sensitive yet confidential financial information. Your ability to maintain patience, empathy, and understanding while explaining processes is a must. The candidate will also act as liaison with other offices and constituents, both on and off campus, to help determine and resolve matters pertaining to students' enrollment, accounts, and academic concerns which may affect eligibility for financial aid. Multitasking, stress management and listening skills are essential for this position. Excellent written and verbal skills are also a requirement

 This position may require the need to be available to occasionally work evenings or weekends.  While other duties may be assigned, in general, this position is involved in these areas:

Service:

  • Answer emails from students, parents and prospective students
  • Attend on-campus meetings and activities
  • Maintain supplies and forms and order when needed
  • Mail award letters as students become complete
  • Notify students of Standards of Academic Progress issues
  • Attend Orientations sessions and any related functions
  • Manage calendar for Financial Aid - set appointments as needed
  • Verify all financial aid files. Review applications and package all aid for all students
  • Process all loan applications through PowerFaids and Scholarnet.
  • Download daily files from federal government
  • Make adjustments to loans through Scholarnet and outside loan agencies
  • Process alternative loans through PowerFaids and online as required
  • Research loan problems for students and parents
  • Maintain entrance and exit interview counseling sessions
  • Keep abreast of Federal Regulation changes and attend necessary seminars
  • Deliver Financial Aid Presentations to large groups of students/parents as needed
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP, Excel, PowerFaids, Word, Outlook
  • Troubleshoot problems when they arise.
  • Discuss student accounts and payment options with students and/or parents
  • Log outside scholarship checks and process for cashier. Enter onto PowerFaids screen and  verify that over-awards do not exist
  • Manage POE screen and update enrollment as needed
  • Run financial aid access data-base as needed
  • Process TITLE IV refunds and do adjustments to accounts as needed 

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree and 0-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Federal Financial Aid. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Windows; working knowledge of Ellucian PowerCAMPUS and PowerFAIDS is preferred. Excellent customer service skills are a must.
