Summary

The Display Designer will develop, fabricate and install several projects related to CCAD and one of its partnering organizations. This position will work independently to develop, fabricate, and install displays that explain key concepts to a wide audience around topics in innovation and mobility. The Display Designer will have direct experience with past learning projects at CCAD through the Corporate & Community Partnerships office, and a strong knowledge of equipment and processes available in CCAD's Fab Lab or a related fabrication shop.


The following is a list of those tasks currently known but will update and evolve as processes evolve.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with related learning partners to develop displays of past projects

  • Audit existing designs, deliverables, and content for the specific display projects

  • Adjust and adapt previously designed materials and files

  • Prepare files for vendors (i.e., vinyl suppliers, etc.)

  • Work with past project participants to understand the project goals, outcomes, and installation needs

  • Measure and map out displays to fit space appropriately, taking egress and interaction into consideration

  • Research, select and order all materials, including mounting hardware, paint, adhesives, wood, panel, metal, and any other surfaces and elements needed for the display

  • Detail out material budget prior to ordering to be sure to stay within budget

  • Prepare cut files and utilize CNC machine for large-scale fabrication elements

  • Seek regular feedback and approvals from learning partners before finalizing

  • Communicate regularly with external partners, faculty, staff, and fellow students/alumni.


DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience with display fabrication

  • Knowledge and independence in using tools in the CCAD Fab Lab or other fabrication shop

  • Working knowledge of necessary programs, including Adobe Creative Suite and CAD programs

  • Organizational/project management skills

  • Strong and respectful communication skills via email, instant messaging, text, phone and in person

  • Responsive, self-directed, and reliable


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • BFA in Industrial Design or a related field

  • Experience with a corporate- or community-partnered project in the classroom and/or internship with an outside organization (preferred)

  • Alum of CCAD (preferred)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee must be able to lift 40 pounds, and have the physical ability to install large display elements. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands. Vision abilities required in this job include overall visual acuity for digital, physical and print visual designs. Reliable transportation is necessary for this position.

As a part of the Return to Campus plan, any student worker or employee accessing CCAD facilities for class or work is expected to monitor their health on a daily basis.
