Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD), awarded A Top 10 Workplace from CEO magazine, is seeking applications for the position of Director of DevelopmentReporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Development is responsible for managing an existing portfolio of individual and corporate major gift donors, as well as identifying and cultivating new major gift prospects. The director currently manages one staff member, the Alumni & Development Manager. The director works collaboratively with the Vice President for Advancement and the Advancement team to ensure seamless relationship management at all levels. The ideal candidate will have experience as a major gift officer and a manager of personnel and projects, as well as a passion for art and design and the desire and ability to attend cultural events in Columbus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While other duties may be assigned, in general, Director of Development is involved in executing the following:

  • Manage an existing portfolio of individual and corporate major gift donors
  • Research, identify and cultivate new major gift prospects
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle for assigned prospects: - Initiate contacts with potential donors - Develop appropriate cultivation strategies - Make solicitations when appropriate - Maintain stewardship contacts with donors
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the college to cohesively manage corporate relationships and to ensure relationships are maximized for the benefit of CCAD and the corporation
  • Solicit sponsorships for annual events, including Chroma: Best of CCAD and the CCAD Fashion Show
  • Supervise and oversee the work of the Alumni & Development Manager who has primary responsibility for alumni affairs and annual giving campaigns for alumni, faculty, and staff
  • Work collaboratively with Advancement colleagues to create meaningful stewardship and to maintain a seamless connection to CCAD from the perspective of the donor
  • Responsible for entering actions and opportunities in Raiser's Edge
  • With the assistance of Advancement office staff, ensure donor information is updated and maintained accurately in Raiser's Edge
  • Review and update outstanding pledges and fundraising reports for accuracy
  • Assist VP for Advancement with developing and maintaining an annual gift projections sheet
  • Attend weekly meeting to update the projections for fiscal year and to discuss donor strategies to close gifts
  • Attend weekly one on one meeting with VP for Advancement
  • Attend targeted events outside CCAD to network with donors and prospects
  • Attend all Advancement events
  • Handle other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or post-graduate training/education in fundraising and development preferred
  • Minimum of three years successful experience in development required with direct experience soliciting gifts; five years' experience preferred
  • Development work within a higher education setting preferred

  • Demonstrate interest in all aspects of CCAD and a dedication to promoting the college's fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, staff, volunteers, and the Advancement team
  • Exhibit initiative, optimism, and enthusiasm
  • Develop a broad and deep understanding of art and design education as provided by CCAD, and display the aptitude to become conversant in college developments regarding education, public programming, and strategic plans
  • Exhibit an ability to understand the needs and interests of CCAD donors in order to develop relationships between them and the college
  • Possess successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, personnel management, and the ability to bring events and projects from vision to reality in a timely and dynamic manner
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Razer's Edge preferred
  • Possess the ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel as required
