SUMMARY

In conjunction with the VP for Enrollment Management, the Director of Admissions is responsible for effectively executing communications and recruitment plans to meet the enrollment goals and objectives of the College. The Director leads a team of undergraduate Admissions Counselors to achieve these goals and objectives, and is responsible for their team-members' professional growth, skills development and training, and morale.

 

The Director of Admissions collaborates with peers in other functional areas of Enrollment Management Services, including Admissions Operations, Financial Aid, Admissions CRM, Registrar, and Outreach to advance the mission of the college. They also partner with peers in areas outside of Enrollment Management services to ensure incoming student goals are met, including Housing, Advising, and Student Engagement.

 

This position will oversee the review of applications, and ensures that applications are reviewed in a timely manner. The Director of Admissions also has general admission responsibilities, including but not limited to serving in a public relations and information/counseling role with prospective applicants, their parents, educators and high school guidance counselors, both in the office and on the road.

 

The Director of Admissions serves as a member of the leadership team for Enrollment Management services by participating in strategy formation and execution efforts, and works to manage the affairs of the office in cooperation with other senior-level colleagues. The Director must serve as a role model and mentor to direct reports and always represent the office and the college in a positive manner. This position reinforces CCAD's commitment to the highest ideals of service, integrity and student satisfaction.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

Undergraduate Recruitment:

  • Collaborates with VPEM to devise and plan tactics and campaigns to support execution of recruitment strategies.
  • Plans and executes tactics and campaigns for undergraduate recruitment, both domestic and international.
  • Executes recruitment plan efficiently and effectively, keeping in mind both institutional goals and the skills and professional growth of the counselor team.
  • Ensures that undergraduate domestic and international recruitment goals are met.
  • Assists in the creation and monitoring of enrollment goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the development of and oversees the execution of the department's communication plan for various audiences including prospective students, admitted students, parents and art educators, in order to achieve enrollment goals and elevate the CCAD brand.
  • Provides insight into audience needs to VP for Enrollment Management and VP for Marketing.
  • Participates in the development of promotional materials.
  • Represents the College at recruitment events on and off campus including Admitted Students Day, National Portfolio Days, college fairs and high schools.
  • Speaks publicly to groups on and off campus.
  • Counsels prospective students and families regarding the admissions process and the opportunities that the College presents, and is responsible for small pool of prospective students from inquiry to enrollment.
  • In collaboration with Director of Admissions Operations, oversees implementation of various Admissions related events and activities.
  • Some travel will be required for recruitment- related events

 

Management and Supervision:

  • Supervises all undergraduate Admissions Counselors.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates undergraduate Admissions Counselors.
  • Manages, coaches, and mentors employees so that they perform to their highest ability and conform to CCAD and Enrollment Services policies and procedures at all times.
  • Director actively seeks to increase the knowledge, skills, and leadership development of their team.
  • Ensures any employee performance issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Maintains awareness and understanding of all processes and activities performed by staff.
  • Understands that while work may be delegated to staff, Director is ultimate person responsible for activities in the department.

 

Financial Aid Interaction:

  • Ensures Admissions provides reports and information as needed to Financial Aid to assist in recruitment and yield of prospective students.
  • Models a cooperative and collegial working relationship with Financial Aid office.
  • Supports the Financial Aid office with various outreach initiatives to incoming students.

 

Other Areas of Activity:

  • Maintains accurate and current process documentation of all processes, policies, procedures and activities performed by Admissions recruitment personnel.
  • Director is expected to be aware of news, developments, and current trends within the Admissions field. This includes federal and state regulations, as well as best practices. News and developments which can have an impact on the institution as well as best practices and trends which can be considered for adoption at CCAD are brought to the attention of VPEM.
  • Coordinates with Admissions CRM Administrator to ensure effective use of Slate CRM for recruitment activities.
  • Interfaces with various professional associations including NACAC, NPDA, OACAC, and International ACAC.
  • Is able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty, and vendors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
  • The Director must have the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic and educational levels and skills by using a variety of interpersonal strategies to interact appropriately in situations ranging from large meetings to individual appointments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed above. Additional qualifications include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A valid driver's license and exemplary driving record
  • A valid passport
  • Evidence of strong organizational abilities, time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple duties simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Proven ability to use CRM and SIS software

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 - 7 years of directly related experience in non-profit educational environment
  • 3 -5 years of direct supervisory or managerial experience
  • BFA/MFA preferred
  • Proven track record of recruitment success with a student body that is culturally, racially, and socio economically diverse.
  • Successful experience working and leading in a multicultural academic setting.
