Chief Information Officer

 

Columbus College of Art & Design seeks a creative and dynamic leader to be the college's next chief information officer. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration & Operations, the CIO will establish and direct the strategic long-term goals, policies, and procedures for CCAD's Information Technology department. The CIO will determine the college's long-term needs and any acquisitions necessary to accomplish the college's academic and business objectives. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader who understands higher education and the broad-based issues impacting academic technology in an art and design context.

 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities: The chief information officer will be responsible for providing innovative vision, strategy, and leadership for the coordination of technology policy and planning and for the management of technology systems in the instructional, creative, and administrative functions of the college.

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets present and future requirements.
  • Develop IT strategies in collaboration with the CCAD Board of Trustees, president, provost, other senior academic and administrative leaders, IT managers, and other representatives of the college.
  • Collaborate with both academic and administrative leaders to facilitate institutional change and create a positive organizational culture for information technology services across campus.
  • Propose hardware/software solutions to accomplish the college's business and academic objectives.
  • Set strategic direction and policy for the whole organization regarding technology platforms, partners, and practices.
  • Conduct research, solicit input from user and operator groups, and make decisions on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of infrastructure procurement and development efforts.
  • Play a leadership role in setting technology direction and priorities that will ensure CCAD remains on the forefront of art and design higher education.

Operational Management

  • Lead the IT department to best support the campus community, provide a robust and dependable technological environment, and foster a departmental environment of continuous improvement and team development.
  • Define technology standards in conjunction with owners and stakeholders.
  • Establish standards and monitor IT systems performance, providing metrics and reports as necessary and in support of a culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Develop policies and procedures supporting the college's technology infrastructures, administrative systems, customer supports systems, and academic technologies.
  • Steward positive vendor relationships and serve as primary point of contact for most contracts and negotiations regarding all technology equipment, software, and/or services purchased for the college.
  • Ensure all IT projects are well-supported with a planful approach, allocation of appropriate resources, and a collaborative and collegial vetting process.
  • Stay current on technology best practices within higher education and regulations impacting job duties.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as requested.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of experience in the information technology or related field required.
  • A career demonstrating a progression of responsibility and portfolio required.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a related area preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, decision making, and management skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the spectrum of IT activities, including technology infrastructure, academic and creative computing, administrative systems, security, and risk management.
  • Experience developing plans and communicating strategy, with a successful change- and project management history.
  • Ability to oversee the project management for minor investments up to large capital projects.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills in building and maintaining levels of trust, mutual respect, and collegiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration; experience building strong collaborative relationships with partners outside of IT.
  • Proven track record of working within a multicultural organization and striving for inclusion and equity in the workplace.
  • Ability to present and communicate complex issues to peers, associates, and leadership.
  • Knowledge and awareness of current trends and issues in higher education related to information technology.
  • Proven ability to recruit and retain well-qualified, high performing professionals and empower them to succeed.
