CCAD's Business Office is seeking an experienced student financial services professional to fill the role of Bursar. Ideal candidates have at least 1-3 years of relevant experience and can work independently with little supervision, are a critical thinker, can multitask effectively, and are committed to providing students excellent customer service. The Bursar is a key member of the Business Office and will work alongside a team of professionals committed to the mission of the college, working together in a collaborative fashion, and supporting CCAD's community of faculty, staff, and students.


SUMMARY

The Bursar is responsible for managing all aspects of the college's student account receivable functions including billing, payment processing, establishing payment plans, refunds, collections, and preparation of annual tax forms. This role is a key part of the student experience at the college and provides excellent customer service while helping students navigate their accounts and coordinating with financial aid and registration. The Bursar reports to the college's Controller and is an integral member of the Business Office team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparation of student account statements including assessments for tuition, fees, housing, meal plan, and any other charges in accordance with approved rates
  • Prepares and processes refunds to students and third-parties in accordance with regulatory and internal policy timelines.
  • Coordinate billings with various third-parties including State Bureaus of Vocational Rehabilitation, ROTC, VA, State Tuition Credit Authorities, and other outside agencies.
  • Processing payments on student accounts to ensure accurate balances.
  • Provides customer service and financial counseling to students, parents and guardians in various modes – email, phone, virtual meetings, and in-person. Participates in new student orientation programs as requested.
  • Coordinate outsourced collections activities, including recurring reporting, posting activity to accounts, and ensuring the outsourced provider is operating in a manner consistent with the goals of the college.
  • Operates as the product owner for the college's technical systems used in administering student accounts, electronic payments, and offering payment plans. Coordinates with the college's Information Technology department on technical issues as needed.
  • Maintains rate tables to ensure accuracy of charges, credits, scholarships, grants, and waivers. Coordinates with college departments as needed.
  • Routine accounting functions such as month-end and year-end close of the billing system, ad hoc reporting, monitoring of payment plans, and assisting in reconciliations between the billing system and general ledger.
  • Coordinates production of 1098-T statements with the outsourced provider.



QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Familiar with federal rules and regulations pertinent to student finances such as cash management, form 1098-T preparation, and collections.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, uncover improvement opportunities that improve efficiency and customer service, and work through process changes in a collaborative fashion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present and interact with diverse audiences.
  • Curiosity, commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage projects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related fields required. 1-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified is desired. A combination of direct experience and training in lieu of a Bachelor's degree will be considered.
  • Experience with Ellucian Powercampus and Transact CashNet is beneficial, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

COMPENSATION: This position is full-time, exempt. Compensation is commensurate on experience and qualifications. CCAD offers a benefits package including: vacation time, additional paid time off while the college is closed during winter break, sick time accrual, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art.
