About the AVP for Development: CCAD's development department is seeking an experienced leader who enjoys fast-paced roles, can work independently with little supervision, is a critical thinker, and has the ability to multi-task to fill this role. The development staff is a highly collaborative and cohesive team, providing a range of high-quality services for our faculty, staff, and students.  Ideal candidates will have at least three years of experience. SUMMARY: The Associate Vice President for Development is responsible for providing vision and oversight to the Development department which advances the mission of the college through fundraising, alumni and student engagement, and the promotion of CCAD within the Central Ohio community and beyond. The AVP oversees and provides leadership for all aspects of CCAD's development and fundraising operations including major gift solicitation, prospect research, annual giving, gift processing and acknowledgement, stewardship strategy, grant writing, and alumni engagement. Additionally, the AVP manages a select portfolio of individual and corporate donors while seeking to identify and cultivate new potential donors. The AVP sets the vision and goals for the college's annual and long-term fundraising efforts in collaboration with the President and Senior Vice President for Institutional Engagement. This position requires experience as a major gifts officer, strong organizational skills, managerial acumen, demonstrated cultural competency, and a willingness to attend Central Ohio arts and cultural events. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Institutional Engagement (SVP), the Associate Vice President oversees a staff of five full-time employees. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage a portfolio of individual and corporate major gift donors through the full gift cycle including initial contact, cultivation strategy, direct solicitation, gift agreement creation, and ongoing stewardship
  • Assist the college in preparation for a major capital campaign in alignment with the vision of the President and Board of Trustees
  • Strengthen the major gift pipeline through cultivation of new major gifts prospects
  • Utilize research and strong relationship management strategies to expand and strengthen the college's pipeline of potential donors
  • Oversee alumni relations and collaborate with CCAD community members to develop effective strategies for sustained alumni engagement and giving
  • Work closely with the SVP for Institutional Engagement and other campus partners to cohesively manage and leverage corporate relationships
  • Sets a strategy for procuring sponsorships for college events including Chroma: Best of CCAD, the Fashion Show, among others
  • Ensure a positive donor experience through meaningful stewardship activites and strategic communication with individual and corporate donors
  • Interact closely with the Board of Trustees, former trustees, and major donors to ensure sustained engagement with the college
  • Develop annual giving goals, track progress, and develop reports for senior administrators
  • Represent CCAD's Development department at internal and external events; attend targeted events to network with current donors, prospective donors, and community partners
  • Ensure the successful coordination of all Development department events including local and national alumni engagement activities, the annual Celebration of Excellence, and the Fashion Show
  • Manage the Development department budget, forecast future needs, and work with senior administrators to ensure resources for goals
  • Provide leadership to the Development department by organizing staff meetings, facilitating communication channels, and promoting a collaborative team-oriented work environment
  • Ensure effective processes, policies, and data management strategy to support a highly functional development operation
  • Engage in occassional travel (regional and national) on behalf of the college for alumni and donor events
  • Serve as a member of the college's Senior Staff and Strategic Leadership Teams
  • Serve as a member of the External Relations Committee of the Board of Trustees and other Board committtees as directed by the President
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises three full-time employees and responsible for oversight of a team of five full-time employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with CCAD's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; motivating and incentivizing strong performance; and addressing performance improvement needs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or post-graduate training and education in fundraising and development preferred
  • Minimum of three years successful experience in development required with direct experience soliciting gifts; five years of experience with fundraising preferred
  • Development work within a higher education setting preferred

  • Exhibit an ability to understand the needs and interests of CCAD donors in order to foster relationships between donors and the college
  • Possess successful experience in making "cold calls" as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Demonstrate strong personnel management and the ability to bring events and projects from vision to reality in a timely and dynamic manner
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exhibit professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Raiser's Edge preferred
  • Possess the ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel as required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear
  • The employee is required to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is occasional required to stand: walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required to do this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Occasional travel is required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate

COMPENSATION: This position is full-time, exempt.  Compensation is commensurate on experience and qualifications. CCAD offers a benefits package including: vacation time, additional paid time off while the college is closed during winter break, sick time accrual, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art.
