Assistant Professor in First-Year Experience
The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor for our First-Year Experience (FYEX) studio sequence. The ideal candidate will be an artist and/or designer who is passionate about first-year education for multidisciplinary art and design students. The FYEX studio sequence teaches classes in drawing, multi-dimensional materials and color, meaning-making, and collaboration specifically geared to students with a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and academic goals. The ideal candidate will be able to teach in this sequence while being mindful of the learning outcomes of the entire department. The department is interested in candidates who are collaborative in their pedagogical approach and mindful of groups historically underrepresented in academia. The faculty member will teach six courses an academic year (3 each semester). While these courses will primarily be in the FYEX sequence, opportunities for teaching throughout the college's undergraduate and graduate programming will be available based on interest and need. Applicants should discuss their specific art & design discipline in the application. All FYEX faculty are encouraged to collaborate on both departmental and cross-disciplinary projects and are expected to contribute to college service and maintain an active creative practice. Additionally, new faculty are a part of the college's mentoring program to help facilitate their success in their career goals.
The CCAD FYEX Department is housed in the Design Studios on Broad building but works with resources across campus. Highlights include: dedicated drawing and studio classrooms, gallery spaces for student installation and display, a digital printing lab, a woodshop and fabrication lab with laser cutters, a CNC machine, and 3-D printers, faculty offices, and access to a 90 Seat Screening Room with a Christie 4220 DLP 4K Projector and Dolby Atmos 7.1 Surround Sound System.

- A two-page cover letter that articulates the ways their experience fits the role, highlights their teaching philosophy, and their commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility;
- A CV that includes:
- names and contact details for three references;
- a link to a portfolio of personal creative work;
- a link to a portfolio of student work.
Start Date: The position will begin August 4, 2025.
Qualification:
- A MFA in art or design is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- University or college teaching experience at the foundation level
- Experience in collaborating with other faculty in curriculum development and assessment
- Professional academic activity that demonstrates an interest in foundation studies (FATE, SECAC, CAA)
