Assistant Professor- CORE First Year

 The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking a full-time faculty to primarily teach in our First-Year CORE program. Successful candidates will be able to teach Visual Literacy I and II, design and color theory courses. Visual Literacy courses provide an introduction to the principles of creative design and the common organizational systems associated with color theory appropriate to all undergraduate majors. Leveraging 2-D, 3-D and 4-D strategies, the elements of design and the properties of color are identified, employed and controlled in progressively more complex projects. Course projects require the use of traditional studio processes in conjunction with digital media including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Priority will be given to candidates who are well versed in both digital and traditional media, and have the demonstrated ability to seamlessly integrate the two.

 

CCAD is looking for a dynamic and engaged faculty who is passionate about teaching and mentoring first-year students, and with building successful learning environments and connections with diverse student populations. This position carries the responsibility of contributing to the teaching/learning, research/discovery, and outreach/engagement mission of the college. The candidate must demonstrate initiative, dependability, empathy, reliability, and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching to a shared syllabus and learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the promotion of excellence in teaching pedagogy and methodologies that lead to effective instruction and learning of first-year students from all majors. The ability to teach Drawing Methods a plus.

 

In Practice: We seek a colleague who is actively engaged in the contemporary art & design world. A knowledge base including art and design practices and methodologies, business understanding, and a fluency in cultural trends and educational practices is essential.

 

 In Teaching: We value educators who are empathetic with creative high achieving students of diverse skills and backgrounds.

 

In Service: We expect leadership in undergraduate programs, curriculum development, advising, and governance within the departments, college and field at large.

 

 Position: Assistant Professor, full-time

 

Qualifications: A terminal degree in an appropriate studio art field is required. A minimum of three years teaching in a first-year or foundation program with at least two years of full-time teaching at the college level is required, and a demonstrated professional practice with promise of continued future work.
