Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD), awarded A Top 10 Workplace from CEO magazine, is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Director of Student Engagement and InclusionThe Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion develops programming and provides oversight for activities that aim to foster and sustain a sense of community among CCAD students. This position serves as the lead advisor to student organizations focused on inclusion and equity education and provides organizational support to other student organizations including the student program board. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement specifically seeks to facilitate the personal and academic success of students of color through development of programmatic initiatives, mentorship opportunities and individual advisement. The successful candidate will be an innovative and dynamic professional who can contribute to institutional efforts to broaden equity and inclusion throughout the campus.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While other duties may be assigned, in general, The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion is involved in executing the following:

  • Provide leadership and direction for multicultural affairs and inclusion initiatives that support the college's mission and the Division of Student Affairs' learning outcomes.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives to create a welcoming environment for all students, but particularly for those whose identities have been historically marginalized.
  • Mentor, support, and advocate for students of color to foster a healthy, productive, and successful experience at CCAD.
  • Advise all current CCAD-sponsored student organizations which currently include: the Black Student Leadership Association, Queer Alliance, Empowering Feminism on Campus, and the Student Programming Board.
  • Assist student leaders with planning and implementation of events, programs, speakers, and educational opportunities related to the missions of their organizations.
  • Plan and implement the Student Affairs Diversity Retreat.
  • Develop and implement policies and processes that support the development and maintenance of student clubs and organizations.
  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement with planning International Student Orientation and serve as primary facilitator of the international student orientation program.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of campus-wide events such as Welcome Week, Family Weekend, and the Student Leadership Banquet.
  • Assist in assessing the student experience as it relates to student engagement and leadership opportunities in clubs/organizations.
  • Supports the college's retention efforts through individual interventions with students.
  • Serve on the Diversity Task Force and other college-wide committees as assigned by the Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree in a field relevant to the growth and maturation of college students is preferred.

 

Two or more years of demonstrated successful experience in student affairs is expected. This may include assistantship, internship, and undergraduate work.  Additionally, a well-qualified candidate should demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends related to multicultural and international student populations.
  • Experience in successfully implementing diversity education and multicultural student support strategies on a college campus.
  • Strong work-ethic, attention to detail, and an ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in advising student organizations, student programming boards, student government and/or supervising student leaders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Experience building a supportive community among students and peers.
  • An excellent understanding of programming and event management.

 

Additional Qualities Expected In This Position:

This position is a key role in student services administration. The individual is expected to maintain a spirit of professionalism, diplomacy and tact. This position requires the need to be available to work evenings and or weekends.
