ABOUT THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: CCAD's Facilities department is seeking a professional who enjoys fast-paced roles, can work independently with little supervision, and has the ability to multi-task to fill this role. The Facilities staff is a highly collaborative and cohesive team, providing a range of high-quality services for our faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director helps to maintain work environments and the technicians.  We are dedicated to our mission of being an agile, trusted resource who delivers sustainable service and solution that contribute to the CCAD's success.

 

SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, directs and inspects the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of campus buildings, grounds and equipment.  Meets with employees, contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure these buildings and grounds conform to CCAD & building standards.  Maintains the highest level of security, access and safety on campus in accordance with building codes and standard security procedures. Assist with supervision, scheduling and training.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, coordinates and directs facility maintenance tasks required to efficiently and effectively operate all CCAD properties.
  • Assist with supervision, project prioritization, and training.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of general and mechanical maintenance technicians, and ground keepers.
  • Applies leadership and maintenance experience to help guide the department.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, students, contractors and guests.
  • Answer inquiries from customers or college community members regarding methods and materials used to maintain the facilities.
  • Prepare estimates of staffing and materials necessary to complete specified work.
  • Coordinate special projects as necessary.
  • Ensure that all work is performed and accomplished in a safe manner using OSHA guidelines and common workplace safety practices.
  • Ensure that staff members and vendors receive all necessary and appropriate training to allow them to produce desired results.
  • Represent department in an appropriate manner to campus community.
  • Manages the process related to employee timekeeping, work orders, ordering of supplies, email, safety training, etc.
  • Work with Safety & Security to maintain Fire and Safety systems and keep CCAD up to code.
  • Maintain monthly and annual Life Safety fire extinguisher logs.
  • Coordinate the collection of hazardous waste from all departments.
  • Complete complex technical work and troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor new CCAD staff.
  • Works extended shifts and weekends as needed during high priority projects and events.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the direct supervision of general and mechanical maintenance technicians, and ground keepers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with CCAD's policies and applicable laws. Must be able to train new technicians to fulfill certain maintenance and safety duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

 

  • Must possess mechanical, HVAC, and maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, alumni, other constituents and the public.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and redirect the work force as needed.
  • Should have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • BS degree in a related field or completion of related technical or vocational education/training.
  • 3 years of work-related experience in leadership and maintenance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively, present information and respond to questions from customers, employees, managers, clients, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds in a safe manner.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

COMPENSATION: This position is full-time, exempt.  Compensation is commensurate on experience and qualifications. CCAD offers a benefits package including: vacation time, additional paid time off while the college is closed during winter break, sick time accrual, health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art.
