Adjunct Instructor, Professional Practices in Photography


Columbus College of Art & Design invites applicants for adjunct instructor in the Photography program. The instructor will work closely with the program chair to further strengthen CCAD's mission to approach photography as ever-evolving technical, aesthetic, and conceptual frameworks for expanded meaning-making and creative expression. This course prepares graduating seniors for career readiness, with an emphasis on personal responsibility, networking, self-promotion, and product generation. The class requires an innovative, empathic professional who will deliver relevant learning outcomes for diverse upper-level BFA students by demonstrating the connections and sustaining practices between one's own personal work and client-centered projects. Qualified applicants will possess subject matter expertise and/or experience teaching the following:

  • Creating a Cohesive Body of Professionally-Handled and Presentable Prints
  • Creating Professional Online Presences (social and webpages)
  • Professional Writing (artist statement, project proposal, resume, cover letter)
  • Pitching Ideas and Project Proposals; Submitting Applications
  • Developing a Personal Philosophy Based in a Demonstrated Understanding of Formal and Theoretical Strategies
  • Devising Frameworks and Methodologies that Enable One to Generate and Explore One's Own Ideas
  • Self-Direction, Independence, and a Purposeful, Interdisciplinary Approach when Conducting Research in Support of a Project
  • Critical Analysis and Reasoning
  • Ethical Deployment of One's Photographic Vision and Communicative Goals
  • Fluent Photographic Technique and Demonstrated Facility with Gear
  • Soft-Skills Needed to Succeed in a Professional Environment

Position: Adjunct Instructor, part-time


Qualifications: Terminal degree in Photography, Fine Arts, or related field required. Industry experience AND college-level teaching desired.
