Adjunct Instructor, Introduction to Digital Photography

Columbus College of Art & Design invites applicants for adjunct instructor in the Photography program. The instructor will work closely with the program chair to further strengthen CCAD's mission to approach photography as ever-evolving technical, aesthetic, and conceptual frameworks for expanded meaning-making and creative expression. The class requires an innovative, empathic professional who will deliver relevant learning outcomes for majors and non-majors alike by deploying critical pedagogies, centering diverse perspectives, and foregrounding the influence of image-makers on social and cultural change. Qualified applicants will possess subject matter expertise and/or experience teaching introductory knowledge in the following:

  • Typical modalities for photographic expression (e.g. portraiture, landscape, documentary, formalism, illustration, evidence, expos, narrative, tableau, etc.)
  • Common ideation/inspiration strategies and themes (e.g. identity, community, place/space, communication/semiotics, ethics, activism, etc)
  • Appropriate vocabulary to describe materials, processes, elements and principles of design, subject matter, content, and intended effects
  • Contemporary and Historical Practitioners of Photography
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Description Analysis Interpretation Judgement (DAIJ) method of assessment for critique
  • Capture and Editing on Mobile Devices
  • Manual dSLR camera controls for RAW capture
  • Resolution Conventions (image size, bit depth, ppi vs dpi, etc)
  • File Formats and Media/File Storage Best Practices
  • Basic Digital Image Editing in Adobe Bridge, Camera RAW and Lightroom
  • Introductory-level Adobe Photoshop Workflow
  • Simple Output Options (web-based and object-based)

Position: Adjunct Instructor, part-time

Qualifications: Terminal degree in Photography, Fine Arts, or related field required. Industry experience AND college-level teaching desired.
