Learning Support Coordinator


Columbus College of Art & Design, awarded A Top 10 Workplace from CEO magazine, is seeking applications for the position of Learning Support CoordinatorThe Learning Support Coordinator provides administrative support and coordination of disability accommodations, peer tutoring, and learning support services. This position communicates with internal and external constituents, assists with recordkeeping, compiles reports, and performs other duties as directed by the Assistant Dean of Students for Support Services. The Learning Support Coordinator establishes accommodation plans and provides academic-skills coaching to students. Additionally, the Coordinator manages the peer tutoring program (Creative Coaches) and supervision of student employees, as well as coordinates the assessment of programs and services. This individual will be responsible for helping students to develop interdependence and responsibility in alignment with the mission of CCAD and the Learning Support Office.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Receive and process disability accommodation documentation; create individual student files for disability related inquiries
  • Conduct intake interviews with students identifying has having a disability; determine and advise on appropriate steps to complete the accommodations process; interact with family members supporting the student
  • Evaluate eligibility for reasonable accommodations under ADA and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; develop individual accommodation plans with students; help students understand how to utilize their accommodations and mitigate the impact of their disabilities.
  • Implement disability accommodation services (schedule and provide testing accommodations, generate and distribute instructor letters, schedule and track note takers, distribute class notes, answer questions about the accommodations process, etc.)
  • Maintain confidential files and organization of students records related to disability accommodations
  • Develop resource materials to address needs of faculty and staff; provide consultation and training to campus community on disability accommodation matters, including classroom and behavior management strategies
  • Respond to faculty inquiries related to specific student accommodations; conduct classroom observations as needed; review fundamental requirement of courses as it relates to students' accommodations.
  • Advise students with disabilities about their responsibilities and rights; in consultation with the Assistant Dean of Students for Support Services, respond to student complaints and inquiries related to the implementation of accommodation plans and other compliance related issues; maintain grievance policy and facilitate the procedure accordingly
  • Counsel students on how to use assistive technologies such as: SmartPens, speech-to-text software, and audio-books.
  • Track academic and degree progress of students registered with Learning Support; engage in outreach efforts to support at-risk students and other targeted populations and coach students on academic options available to address barriers to their success
  • Participate on CARE Response Team as a front line responder to CARE Reports; engage in appropriate outreach for assigned caseload
  • Coordinate the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and supervision of 5-10 student employees for the Creative Coach program; develop and facilitate training opportunities; monitor and approve work hours in ADP payroll system; plan and implement annual training, including content and coordination of guest speakers
  • Provide academic coaching and success strategies to students in skill areas that include: organization, time management, and test-taking strategies; refer students to other resources as needed
  • Develop, organize, and deliver Learning Support educational workshops and materials to the campus community
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Students for Support Services in conducting assessment and evaluation of Learning Support Office programs and services to measure the impact of interventions and support efforts, as well as to maintain standards of compliance pursuant to applicable laws
  • Participate in reviews of office policy and procedures
  • Use technology and systems to gather student information, run reports, and execute data analysis
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external constituents in person, on the phone, and electronically
  • Periodically attend conferences and other professional development trainings to stay current on emerging trends and best practices in the field
  • Participate in appropriate College committees and contribute to the overall mission of the College
  • Participate in assigned campus events, occasionally occurring on weekends
  • Perform standard clerical duties (filing, ordering, copying, faxing, mailing, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Master's degree in counseling, school counseling, special education, education, college student personnel, psychology, or related field required; minimum one year experience in related discipline, two years preferred
  • Strong understanding of disability accommodation practices as it relates to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
  • Expertise in learning interventions and tutoring students with disabilities.
  • Ability to organize and follow-through effectively on multiple work assignments according to priorities and despite unexpected or changing demands with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and conversations and exercise sound, reliable judgment
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, concisely, and professionally; to intake information critically and adapt communication for audience.
  • Experience in training and mentoring student employees.
  • Ability to help students achieve growth, maturation, and interdependence
  • Comprehensive and proficient computer skills with the ability to navigate complex systems, reports, and data tracking tools (Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, Powercampus, etc).
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to create a welcoming, comfortable, and inclusive office environment
